A survey of 600 mobile phone users in Australia by marketing agency Fresh has thrown up interesting trends.
The survey reveals that almost half use their phones for net surfing at least once a week.
“Those aged 10-14 mostly downloaded ring tones and screen savers…For those aged 15-17 and 24-28, the mobiles were mostly used to get online sports results…Those 18-20 used their phones mostly for social networking on sites such as MySpace and Facebook, and 21-24 for emailing and MSN chat” reports the Herald Sun (www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,21985,24072509-661,00.html).
This pattern gets corroborated by another survey conducted by Amplitude Research, according to which new cell phones users rate accessing the Internet (61%), email capabilities (63%), text messaging (73%) and camera use (67%) as more important features of their handsets, compared to, say battery life (0.5%) or voice activation (0.33%).
