Democratising storytelling medium

August 18th, 2008 · No Comments · General

If you thought that the somewhat grainy, low-resolution images and tiny screen size of your handsets are no good for cinematography, quickly log on to the website of Portable film Festival. The online film festival that is currently on features anything shot on any device (even on mobile phones) and will remain live only till August 30.
What’s more, Portable Film Festival, as the name suggests can be accessed by anyone in the world from a PC or a mobile phone, thus rewritign the rules of film distribution and viewership.
The Melbourne-run event packs in film content of all shapes and sizes from 39 countries, including Iran, Taiwan, Estonia, Russia and Norway, as well as the US, Britain and New Zealand
Brainchild of creative director Andrew Apostola and general manager Simon Goodrich, the first edition of the festival featured 67 films in 2006 and is dubbed a virtual alternative to MIFF.
Billed as a festival that “works to liberate the filmmaking and film viewing process”  program director Al Cossar, says PFF offers something of an antidote to short and otherwise non-feature-length films’ lack of public visibility.
