And now fring rings in a peer-to-peer mobile VoIP

August 18th, 2008 · No Comments · General

If you thought “social networking” is possible only through a pc, think again. fring is a mobile Voice over Internet Protocol (mVoIP) application that allows users to make free calls over mobile and cellular data networks as alternative to highly priced GSM airtime charges.
fring uses 3G over mobile phone networks and therefore provides a continuous call connection. It is 100% free with no subscription costs; consumers simply pay for the data they use under their existing line rental agreement.
Completely PC independent, it requires no additional hardware and no location limitations (e.g. Wi-Fi hotspots) and it integrates very well with Skype, Google Talk and Windows Live Messenger (MSN) networks, meaning their users can now make VoIP calls and chat with their IM contacts from their mobile, anytime and anywhere, over any mobile network.
In other words, just as VoIP allows millions of users to make free PC-to-PC calls, fring challenges the traditional mobile operator pricing models. Currently available in BETA, the following handsets are compatible: Nokia models, 6630, 6680, 6681, 6682, N70, N72, N80, N80i, N90. In the following handsets some features may operate partially: Nokia N71, N73, N75, N91, N92, N93, E60, E61 and E70.
